Sri Lanka’s here-and-there World Cup went on last time out as they managed to score 338/6 against the West Indies on Monday and hit them by 23 runs, but it was too little and too late for them as their loss to an already-kicked out South African team just days before securing them any opportunity of reaching to the semi-finals.

They decided to play without pressure against the Windies with their batsmen delighting the conditions in Durham. The 21-year-old Avishka Fernando was the champion of the show with a fantastic century, and they will seek much more from him in this final game.

Lasith Malinga goes ahead to lead the way with the ball having scored 12 wickets in the five final matches, and they will search for him for early wickets most especially against this formidable starting  Indian partnership and most especially the in-form Rohit Sharma.

Sri Lanka made it pick up a good score over West Indies last Monday despite already being removed. However, coming up against a well packed and motivated India team that will be alert to sharpen up before the semi-finals is a very critical proposition. Virat Kohli’s men will be on the lookout to obtain a win to create some momentum for their bowling unit.

The game against Sri Lanka will be India’s final in the first stage of the World Cup.

India can still top in the standings if they make to beat Sri Lanka and if Australia fails to beat South Africa.
