The ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 is the 13th edition of the flagship event of the international cricket calendar. It will be hosted by India from 5 October to 19 November 2023. Ten teams will compete in a round-robin format, with the top four teams qualifying for the semi-finals.
One of the matches in the league stage will be between Netherlands and Bangladesh, which will take place on Saturday, 28 October 2023 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. This will be the 28th match of the tournament and the first time these two teams will face each other in a World Cup.
Netherlands and Bangladesh have played only two ODIs against each other, both in 2010. Bangladesh won both matches, by six wickets and seven wickets respectively. The last time they met in any format was in a T20I in 2016, which Bangladesh also won by eight runs.
Netherlands have had a mixed run in their recent ODI matches. They won their last match against Sri Lanka by five wickets in the World Cup, but lost their previous three matches against Pakistan, New Zealand and Australia. They are currently ninth in the points table with two points from four matches.
Bangladesh have also struggled in their recent ODI matches. They lost their last match against India by seven wickets in the World Cup, and also lost their previous three matches against England, New Zealand and South Africa. They are currently eighth in the points table with two points from four matches.
Netherlands have some talented players in their squad, who can make an impact in the match. Bas de Leede is their leading run-scorer and wicket-taker in the tournament, with 370 runs and 19 wickets in nine matches. He scored a century against South Africa and took four wickets against Sri Lanka. Vikramjit Singh is their second-highest run-scorer, with 300 runs in 10 matches. He scored a half-century against Pakistan and also took two wickets. Logan van Beek is their second-highest wicket-taker, with 15 wickets in nine matches. He took four wickets against Australia and also scored 24 runs.
Bangladesh have some experienced players in their squad, who can make a difference in the match. Mushfiqur Rahim is their leading run-scorer in the tournament, with 268 runs in seven matches. He scored a century against South Africa and also took three catches. Towhid Hridoy is their second-highest run-scorer, with 228 runs in 10 matches. He scored a half-century against Afghanistan and also took a wicket. Mustafizur Rahman is their leading wicket-taker in the tournament, with 10 wickets in seven matches. He took four wickets against England and also scored 16 runs. Shoriful Islam is their second-highest wicket-taker, with 10 wickets in seven matches. He took three wickets against New Zealand and also scored 14 runs.
Based on the head-to-head record, recent form and key players, Bangladesh are the favourites to win this match. They have a stronger batting line-up and a more experienced bowling attack than Netherlands. They also have more exposure to playing in Indian conditions than Netherlands.
However, Netherlands cannot be underestimated, as they have shown some fighting spirit and resilience in their previous matches. They have some players who can score big runs and take crucial wickets. They also have nothing to lose and everything to gain from this match.
The odds for this match are as follows:
The best bet for this match is to back Bangladesh to win, as they have a higher probability of winning based on their past performances and current form.
The match between Netherlands and Bangladesh will be an interesting one to watch, as both teams will be looking to register their second win of the tournament and improve their position in the points table. Bangladesh have an edge over Netherlands based on their head-to-head record, recent form and key players, but Netherlands have some potential to cause an upset if they play to their strengths and exploit Bangladesh’s weaknesses.
